ImageThe last time Los Lonely Boys played the Verizon Theater in Houston it was packed to the gills. The Boys were riding a high as their album soared them into national prominence. Roughly a year later at the same venue, they arrived to a not so packed house and without a new album to promote.

They did bring one thing that was missing from that 2004 show however-hunger! LLB returned to their scorching roots with a vengeance. From the 2nd tune when they let their hair down (Jo Jo literally sporting new long locks!) to the crowd / radio favorite “Heaven”, they showed what got them attention in the first place.

Henry’s blazing licks were out of hand. JoJo’s non-stop hopping and bass thumping was superb, along with Ringo’s steady skin slammin’ tempo. Something that is lacking at many shows these days is the so called long versions of tunes. “Onda” was done in a mind bending 20+ minute jam! This reveiwer digs the “old school” concert scene of showin’ your stuff and LLB did not disappoint their hard core fans. “Roses”, “Oye Mamacita”, “Friday Night”, “Crossroads”, “Velvet Sky” and “Tell me why” were also killer highlights.

This gig reminded me of when I saw LLB, before their album came out, blowing the roof off haunts like the Saxxon Pub in Austin and Continental Club in Houston. Straight ahead jam rock! Other than the volume being on the high side, this was a great comeback if you will by LLB to the Lone Star State. Let’s hope they NEVER lose that hunger to please their fans on their next CD/tour….
