Where were you in the mid-80s? Maybe you were one of the fans that propelled Australia’s Little River Band to 25 million records sold worldwide. Did you help make two gold and two platinum records possible? How about 13 top 40 hits? Were you listening to other upstart bands like The Eagles or Steve Miller?

Whether you were there, or whether you’re young and diggin classic rock doesn’t really matter because good music is just good music..right? The Little River Band fit into a category all its own for every member of the packed house at Dosey Doe. Recently celebrating 35 years, we can remember hit after hit spanning the heyday years from 1975 to 1988. In 1983 we saw “The Other Guy” lead the way reaching #11 ahead of “We Two” at #22 and “You’re Driving Me Out of My Mind” which was to be the last single to reach the top 40.

The momentum didn’t stop though and the years between 2006 to 2009 saw the band perform over 350 live shows putting enough miles on the bus to travel 10 times around the world!

After a sumptuous meal the audience turned their attention to the stage where long time member Wayne Nelson on bass led Rich Herring on guitar, Greg Hind on guitar, Mel Watts on drums and Chris Marion on keyboards through hit song after hit song.

After the show I managed to snag the song list from a roadie who, with a look of total relief, told me he was finally going home for a couple days rest! The first up was the bands first hit “It’s a Long Way There” from 1975 which set the pace for a set lasting almost 2 hours. Nobody took their eyes off the stage while they sailed through Happy Anniversary, Man On Your Mind, Help Is On It’s Way and Cool Change. The first bars of Reminiscing and Lady drew enthusiastic applause from the audience. The standing ovation which shook the rafters brought LRB to the stage once more with the encore Lonesome Loser closing the set.

I watched CDs, tshirts flying off the table and watched the band members take a moment with each fan signing autographs and reminiscing with …where you when….?

Written by Michael Pittman Nov 06, 2010 at 08:00 PM Where were you in the mid-70s?
