Hell, HMR had already covered the likes of Norah Jones, Colbie Caillat and Corinne Bailey Rae who were on the short lived Lilith gig so I had to go see what the founder had to offer.

Looking good and sexy in her blue jean/vest look SM played most of thee evening in a dazzling array of smoke and bright colors. The backdrop of lacy, silky curtains and 3 fancy chandeliers gave the Verizon a cozy feel indeed. She billed this evening’s event as Sara Mac & Friends and they happened to be fellow Canadian Melissa McClelland and Australian Butterfly Boucher.

Sarah gave stage time to each fine lady and they fronted like 4 songs each. Highlights were Boucher’s “Bitter Song” and and a light up the place “God Loves Me” by McClelland which showcased her major pipes. But the headliner ruled the night for sure. SM cranked out some gems from the new one which played very well. “Loving You is Easy” and “Illusions of Bliss” were sweet as the six member band tightly jammed. Sarah slid behind the piano out of nowhere often and newbies “U Want Me 2” and “Forgiveness” went over tenderly.

McLachlan was very loose and personable throughout, even taking questions from the crowd! One of which was : “How do you feel about your music being called vagina music?” She paused and said : “Is it in a demeaning manner?” Also on marriage counseling: “Why ask me I just got a fuckin’ divorce?” Classic.

This was a different gig with a 20 minute intermission, but 2.5 hours of stage time, too! The night really hit home runs though when SM trotted out and NAILED her classics ! “Adia” rocked. She turned “I Will Remember You” into goosebump city. “Ice Cream” was delicious and she tore the stage down with a smokin’ hot “Sweet Surrender”. McLachlan truly seemed to be enjoying herself and she said feeling good is a great thing, especially up close with loved ones with more hugs to escape the lives we have. Sarah has her two kids on tour and that brought a huge smile to her face when she told the adoring crowd. The encore stunner of the three ladies alone belting out her biggest hit “Angel” reinforced the powerful basis for Lilith Fair in the first place.

Women creating melodies together can be a wonderful thing. Take it from a LONG time supporter of women in rock, this was a backdoor killer night of music……………….God Bless you music lovers everywhere.

Written by Eddie Ferranti Nov 02, 2010 at 08:00 PM Lilith Fair was a landmark showcase for female musicians back in 1997 thru 1999. The touring festival tried to revive itself in 2010, but the weak economy spawned poor ticket sales and it was scrapped.
