a parody of the punk rock hit “American Idiot” by Green Day. This is basically an anthem proclaiming the stereotypical view that some Americans have towards Canadians. Quite humorous with lyrics like, “Sure, they got their national health care, cheaper meds, low crime rates and clean air…Then again well, they got Celine Dion…”

He uses videos to keep the crowd entertained while he changes into his different personas. Like when he performed “Smells like Nirvana” (a take off of Nirvana’s “Smells like Teen Spirit”) he dresses as Kurt Corbin and adds two cheerleaders in the back ground. The videos showed between sets consist of Al TV and 50’s educational programs. Al TV uses real interviews from celebrities and creates a fake Weird Al sit down. You have Al asking silly and obscure questions and the celebrities giving fake responses. The crowd cheered for Al’s Kevin Federaline interview where he asks Kevin who he is going to “knock up” and mooch off of now. These costume change breaks also present clips from any and every show that states the name, Weird Al. Of course the infamous Simpson’s segment where Marge hires Al for a song to win Homer back after a separation singing his parody of John Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane”. He sings, “…little ditty about Homer and Marge…”

Ok, back to the music. He also played “Bob” which is not a quite a parody, but a take off of Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues. After going through the top songs from his latest albums including his first ever top ten single, “White and Nerdy” he finished up with the oldie, but goody parodies songs like “Eat It”. I must not forget to mention the great unreleased parody of T-Pain’s “I’m in Love with a Stripper” switched to “I’m in Love with the Skipper” with Al dressed as Gilligan.

The set was finished off with the original “Al-buquerque”.

Walking out and looking around you see big smiles on everyone’s face, young and old. Attending a show like Weird Al’s is a great way to spend time with your kids and leave with a mind full of memories.

Written by Ebi McMurray Jun 06, 2007 at 08:00 PM I start off the night sitting at the Hard Rock Cafe located next to the venue, Verizon Wireless Theater, looking at the people going into the show ranging from ages 11 to 60. You can point out the fans of Weird Al. Not sure how…
