Believe me, he was a headliner in name only on the marqee! A hot lady by the name of Susan Tedeschi opened the show and promptly blew him off the freakin’ stage!

I’ve been following Susan since I saw her in Austin, Texas at a blues fest in Waterloo Park in the early 90’s. At that time, she wasn’t even playing lead guitar. Boy have things changed. Why this woman is not more highly regarded as a killer guitar player is beyond me. Not since the likes of Bonnie Raitt or Sue Foley have I seen a lady rock like this girl. SHE should be headlining gigs. Currently she is co-headling with her hubbie Derek Trucks and that has to be one hell of a show. This one was, but only had her doing 10 songs.

Wearing a stunningly hot cocktail dress and high heels, she smoked the strings of her guitar like a woman possesed. This multi-talented musician combines a deeply expressive voice and distinctive lyrics in her own bluesey, sexy rasp. She opened the show with a few covers off her latest CD “Hope & Desire”. “Loving you is sweeter than Ever” and the Ray Charles classic “Tired of My Tears” were done very soulfully in her own personal style.

Susan has said it is most important to keep learning and trying new things musically. THAT she has pulled off very well. She rolled thru “Just Won’t Burn”, KILLER version of “In the Garden”, smokin hot “Voodoo Woman” and from her CD “Wait for Me” she did “Don’t think twice it’s Alright” & “The Feeling Music Brings”. Her killer double closer of “Rock Me/Fell in Love” was beyond hot. Talk about leaving the crowd wanting more!

Hell, Delbert brought her BACK for 2 songs during his set and the crowd was screaming for her not to leave the stage! Let’s hope this lady gets her due soon and starts doing full 2+ hour sets she deserves…I know this reviewer will be FIRST in line for those tickets. Until the next time, I’m out…

Written by Eddie Ferranti Apr 26, 2007 at 08:00 PM Delbert McClinton came to H-Town as a headliner on his most recent stop at the Verizon.
