For some performers, this would be a mood-dampening predicament, but for Martin, this bought her songs to life and gave her a chance to be playful.

With just her and a piano, Martin delivered songs like Every Time It Rains and Beautiful Life to the audience like they were friends she was showing her new creation to. After seeing out a show in Chicago a week prior, it was amazing to see this young woman bring her songs to this intimate setting with as much intensity and emotion and she gave on this night.

Martin is showing signs of creating a strong following for her music and herself as audible disappointment was heard from young male fans as she mentioned she was newly engaged. It was personal moments like this that bought the show to life in a way few are able to achieve.

The only thing I’d really love to see from Martin would be a few accompanying musicians to fill the sound out and give a few more layers to the sound. Right now, Martin is much like a folk artist with a piano. It’s straight-ahead, stripped-down and leaves nothing to question. That is definitely an endearing quality to have in a musician.

We can only wait to see what the future holds for Charlotte Martin, while I’d love to experience a show of hers like this again, I know her record sales wouldn’t, so let’s hope for more fuss in the future.

Written by Eddie Ferranti Jun 15, 2005 at 08:00 PM A year ago, Charlotte Martin hit town as part of the Chicks with Attitude Tour and delivered a performance that left this reviewer remember her a year later and looking forward to checking her out on this trip though Houston.
