Contreras is a lyric writing machine who fills the tunes with haunting and longing words to live by.\u00a0 To say this band live is freewheeling would be an understatement.\u00a0 Raucous blues belted out passionately by the underrated\u00a0 Brady was highlighted on great song \u201cThe Fall\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0The group has so much energy and nothing displays it more than the build up and jam effect of \u201cSmokestack Lady\u201d!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cHard to Please\u201d is the latest CD and it is a goodie.\u00a0 The band has endless accolades including playing the Grand Ole Opry like 30 times and being mentioned by Rolling Stone as one of 10 Artists You Need to Know.\u00a0\u00a0 No small potatoes there for sure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/2016\/01\/24\/the-black-lillies-doesy-doe-music-cafe-woodlands-tx\/bl3a\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2663\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"2663\" data-permalink=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/2016\/01\/24\/the-black-lillies-doesy-doe-music-cafe-woodlands-tx\/bl3a\/\" data-orig-file=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Bl3a.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"200,273\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"Bl3a\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Bl3a.jpg\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2663\" src=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Bl3a.jpg\" alt=\"Bl3a\" width=\"200\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a>They never took their foot off the gas especially on new one \u201cThat\u2019s the Way It Goes Down\u201d which registered a 10 on the Jam meter!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MORE highlighted gems included \u201cShepherd\u2019s Song\u201d, \u201c40 Days and 40 Nights\u201d about early career living in a van and another newbie \u201cHard to Please\u201d where the drummer proclaimed he\u2019d been working his fingers to the bone. It is great to see a band who is putting out new music and touring relentlessly to spread the word. \u00a0\u00a0This band exudes a family togetherness that is both refreshing and unique in today\u2019s musical landscape.\u00a0 \u201c\u201dWalking Through\u00a0 Your Town in the Snow\u201d featured beautiful harmony singing and the ovation for an encore brought them back for a stone cold made it sound like their own version of Buffalo Springfield\u2019s \u201cFor What It\u2019s Worth\u201d!\u00a0 The drawn out 60\u2019s style to the song gave this reviewer goose bumps and left the crowd exhausted from the fun overload. God Bless this talented tireless touring bunch of laid back fun lovin\u2019 musicians and come back to Texas soon!<\/p>\n<p>A footnote to this gig is the band had their van and trailer full of gear stolen after the show.\u00a0 $100,000 .
