\"GPthumb1\"<\/a>One of the coolest things about reviewing shows for me is checking out new and vibrant artists.\u00a0 If they are female all the better and one such lady who filled all of those requirements was Grace Potter.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some good buds of mine steered me her way and I was stunned I\u2019d never caught her before. Her original band, The Nocturnals , burst on the scene in 2002 in Vermont playing up to 200 gigs a year.\u00a0 Since signing with Hollywood Records in 2005 they\u2019ve pumped out four studio albums covering all the bases of blues rock, hard rock, and alternative indie sound.\u00a0 This current tour was backing her first solo album, \u201cMidnight\u201d, and she brought a super tight band of six to blow the House of Blues down.<\/p>\n

From the get go you could just feel the powerful presence that Potter brings to an arena, especially a tight one like tonight.\u00a0 She recently described her road show band as \u201cThe Nocturnals on steroids\u201d and that pretty much was the case. At first look you see a runway model come on stage and then the smoky growl, boogey non-stop go-go dancer, V-shaped guitarist grabs you by the neck and rocks your ass off!\u00a0 The new stuff was received well with numbers like scorching \u201cHot to the Touch\u201d, \u201cYour Girl\u201d, \u201cNobody\u2019s Born with a Broken Heart\u201d and sexy groove of \u201cBiggest Fan\u201d, \u00a0where GP slammed on an organ located at center stage. \u00a0\u00a0\u201cMedicine\u201d got me big time when I was right up front feeling the heat this young lady was throwing out!<\/p>\n

The lady put on a relentless 120 minute gig that felt like ,eh hem, having sex with your clothes on!\u00a0 I mean Potter even teased the crowd by \u201cstripping\u201d off things, saying \u201cI\u2019m on my knees for you\u201d which she was, and when she strapped on her guitar it was not for show at all. She brought along her drummer\/husband Matt Burr and they burned hard rock style with \u201cNothing But Water\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"GPthumb2\"<\/a>Her vocal talents have been spoken of in the company of Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt and Koko Taylor and that is fine company indeed. She\u2019s opened in support of tours with the Black Crowes, Gov\u2019t Mule, Dave Matthews, The Avett Brothers at the Ryman, and on two stops on latest Rolling Stones tour she even got to do \u201cGimme Shelter \u201cwith the band on stage!<\/p>\n

Another killer Nocturnal she brought along for this rocket ship ride was guitarist Benny Yucco.\u00a0 His scorching solo on \u201cLow Road\u201d was very nice.\u00a0\u00a0 Other highlights to the raucous evening were foot stomping \u201cLook What We\u2019ve Become\u201d,\u00a0 gospel\u00a0 sounding\u00a0 \u201cEmpty Heart\u201d and closer \u201cInstagators\u201d.\u00a0 Of course this sweatfest had to have an encore and it ruled with full petal down \u201cThe Lion the Beast the Beat\u201d and ferocious \u201cParis (Ooh La La)\u201d!\u00a0 This hot and heavy show was an unique mixture of sexiness and bombastic rock that is indeed a different and very toxic vibrant mix that will bring me back big time.<\/p>\n
