\"\"<\/a>Billy Gibbons returned home to Houston with his current tour in support of his new release \u2018Big Bad Blues\u2019.\u00a0New material from the\u00a0CD was featured heavily throughout the show along with a few sprinkles of classic ZZ Top for good measure so there was plenty of Billy Boogie to go around.<\/p>\n

Gibbons is backed up on this tour by country blues artist extraordinaire Austin Hanks on guitar and Matt Sorum, from Guns and Roses on drums. This musical triple threat made for one rockin\u2019 and rowdy time at Revention Music Center last Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The show started off with a frantic version of the Hambone Willie Newbern classic \u201cRollin and Tumblin\u201d. Gibbons of course took the lead on the number and rocked the house with this first of many raucous tunes to be featured throughout the night.<\/p>\n

Paying tribute to fellow Texan Roy Head, the second song Gibbons performed was \u201cTreat Her Right\u201d, Heads\u2019 hit from 1965.<\/p>\n

Gibbons\u2019 raw and raunchy rendition of the obscure blues number \u201cBring it to Jerome\u201d by Bo Diddley was a fine example of Gibbons penchant for interpreting the blues as only he can do.<\/p>\n

ZZ Top numbers featured during the show included musical blues nuggets like \u201cBlue Jean Blues\u201d and \u201cJesus Just Left Chicago\u201d. Other Top tunes were \u201cJust Got Paid\u201d, \u201cLa Grange\u201d and the favorite crowd sing-a-long song, \u201cSharp Dressed Man\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Austin Hanks song \u201cRising Water Blues\u201d was included during the set with lead vocals by Hanks. This tune can be found on Hanks\u00a0latest release \u2018Alabastard’ and was a perfect fit for the evenings production.<\/p>\n

One of my personal favorites of the many obscure covers that Gibbons pulled out of his hat this evening had to be \u201cI Like It Like That\u201d, a song written by Lowman Pauling and originally recorded in 1953 by The 5 Royales with Charlie \u201cLittle Jazz\u201d Ferguson and his Orchestra.<\/p>\n

Musical tribute was also paid by Gibbons to\u2019 Slim Harpo, Bobby Troup, Hank Ballard and Sam and Dave with inclusion of songs like \u201cGot Love If You Want It\u201d, \u201cRoute 66\u201d, \u201cLet\u2019s Go, Let\u2019s Go, Let\u2019s Go\u201d and \u201cI Thank You\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n

Ultra-high energy and a load of great music was delivered this evening by Billy Gibbons. His musical mark was without a doubt exceeded as he proclaimed how great it was to be back home in Houston. The packed house felt the same and was thrilled to have their Texas musical icon back in the neighborhood as well.<\/p>\n
