{"id":7891,"date":"2020-06-26T23:27:57","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T23:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/?p=7891"},"modified":"2020-06-26T23:28:52","modified_gmt":"2020-06-26T23:28:52","slug":"mike-stinson-mcgonigals-muckyduck-houston-tx-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/2020\/06\/26\/mike-stinson-mcgonigals-muckyduck-houston-tx-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Mike Stinson &#8211; McGonigel&#8217;s MuckyDuck &#8211; Houston, TX &#8211; Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Eddie Ferranti &#8211; June 5, 2020<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/2020\/06\/26\/mike-stinson-mcgonigels-mucky-duck-houston-tx-photos-2\/130-6\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7884\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7884\" src=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/130-215x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a>30 years is a long time.\u00a0 It is almost as long as it has been for McGonigels Mucky Duck to open its doors to live music again in Houston.\u00a0 Seriously the Duck celebrated their 30<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary on June 1, 2020.\u00a0 This is quite an accomplishment in the world of live music venues especially in this day and age of COVID hysteria.\u00a0 Houston favorite , Mike Stinson, hit the stage along with his guitar stud, Lance Smith, and tore it up.\u00a0 We have been following him since way back when he landed in H-Town and actually played at the Houston Railroad Museum.\u00a0 Stinson dusted off some oldies, popped in some newbies, and injected his dry hilarious sense of humor into the two hour set!<\/p>\n<p>The Dynamic Duo busted out with \u201cHouse Burned Down\u201d and Smith scorching early on \u201cHouseboy\u201d to get the sold out show\u2019s attention!\u00a0 \u201cLost Side of Town\u201d fit well with today\u2019s world plus a new one I\u2019m guessing is titled \u201cGovernment Work\u201d.\u00a0 Talk about a tongue-in-cheek machine gun fire rip job of the current state of affairs in DC.\u00a0 Stinson said some comments that have stayed with me since the gig. Gems like: \u201cWell I guess if you are not sick and no bricks in your window you are okay.\u00a0 Gotta just work up from there\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 Or how about : \u201cOnly droplets allowed on this stage tonight are Makers Mark.\u00a0 Coughing section is in the back!\u201d\u00a0 This dude has the market cornered on good satire mixed with heartfelt head scratching lyrics. Backed by whom he alludes to as The Love Man, Baby Duck Smith, delivers with shredding rock complete with guitar face galore!\u00a0 Others that caught our attention big time were \u201cRattling My Cage\u201d, \u201cLate For My Funeral\u201d, tender badass \u201cSquare With The World\u201d, and \u201cCome In Out of the Rain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/2020\/06\/26\/mike-stinson-mcgonigels-mucky-duck-houston-tx-photos-2\/188-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7886\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7886\" src=\"http:\/\/houstonmusicreview.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/188-255x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"249\" \/><\/a>If you think it was getting close to an end you have never seen Stinson play.\u00a0 Both kicked it up a notch for \u201cMight Have To Do It\u201d, blistering \u201cCadillac\u201d, 2020 rat now tune \u201cNo One To Drink With Any More\u201d, and an OH-so-true \u201cSo Busy All The Time\u201d!\u00a0 This was a really good return to live music in a cool club.
