ImageA couple nights ago I caught a show with one of the most interesting bills I have seen in a long time. Voxtrot, Arctic Monkeys, and Queens of the Stone Age were all in town for a night of live music with something for everyone.

Voxtrot, from Austin, opened the show, giving fans of indie pop something to sing a long and dance to. Unfortunately my day job prevented me from catching the group’s set. I can only assume that they played a solid set, having seen them a few times before.

I arrived at the venue just in time to get my camera out and take pictures of Arctic Monkeys. Somehow I have managed to avoid hearing this band, but after seeing them I wished that it wasn’t the case.

As soon as the English garage dance rock quartet took the stage the audience instantly exploded into pogo frenzy. The band’s mission on stage was very clear; make turn the Verizon Wireless Theatre into a dance floor.

While they may not be as popular on this side of the Atlantic, the group still has a rather large fan base. Throughout the majority of their set, the audience screamed the lyrics back to singer Alex Turner.

ImageAfter playing for an hour or so, the group called it a night and cleared the stage for Queens of the Stone Age.

The crowd seemed to thin out quite a bit in between sets, but really it just moved to the outdoor smoking patio.

Once the ashtrays were full, the venue filled back up again with fans of loud and fast rock and roll.
Hanging over the heads of the members of QOTSA were gothic chandeliers, giving the stage show an interesting look, but providing horrible lighting for taking photos. As soon as the lights went out the audience erupted. The noise coming from behind me was almost as loud as the music coming from the stage. Queens played their singles early on, including “Go With the Flow”, to much audience approval.

All in all it was a night for good music, from what seemed like randomly put together bands. While Queens of the Stone Age aren’t a band that I would typically listen to, a good rock and roll show is always fun.
