Once they got the back home jitters out of the way the packed house was treated to a vast array of their catalog of rockers. “Shake” got the hips movin’ and the early appearance of stellar chestnut “The First Lady of Rock” got the attention of the loyal Coyotes fans big time. The band was taking requests all night and it was very cool to see that. “Odessa” always brings goose bumps along with “Detroit or Buffalo”.

The new tunes played quite well with some standout subtle “Coyote” trademark kick ass guitar work on “My Horses Were Gone”, Texas tough “Blood-suckin’ Son of a Gun”, love song “Memory Lane”, and my fave “The Bluebirds Don’t Sing Here Anymore” with signature Tibbles drum mashin’.

This band is a no frills in-your-face ROCK band and they mean it. It’s as simple as that. The term “garage band” fits them to a tee and what’s wrong with that?! With John Boy presenting mama with flowers for “Mudders Day” the band proceeded to scorch the crowd with gems like “Rock in the River” with BK using “toys” to be the devil sound! Cool.

It was neat gettin’ a shout out from the band to Rose & I and then “Boy at the Rodeo” churned out from “My Turn”. The gang seemed loose and easy by now and WOKE the joint up with archive classics “Church of the Falling Rain”, “Plain American Girl”, stellar “Adriana”, San Antone goodie “Johnny Rocks Cantina”, and ass kickin’ “Rock Harder Than You” ! AND that they do.

The Stone Coyotes fill a need in old school rockers. Scratch an itch if you will. I’ve followed these guys since 2002 and if you’ve never experienced the onslaught of jammin’ they throw at ya, you should ! The closing trio of “Dance Band”, “Rock It”, and of course the loyal t-shirt yours truly was wearing “Born To Howl” left me spent and satisfied for sure.

My only bummer was that the gang only played 2 shows this tour and it left me needing more of an injection of down home rock ‘n roll. CYA next time around and y’all stay longer next time……………Have a nice day and a better tomorrow out there in music land.

Written by Eddie Ferranti May 07, 2011 at 08:00 PM The little band out of Massachusetts known as the Stone Coyotes howled their way back to their annoited stomping grounds of Houston, Texas and sounded better than ever.
