\"Image\"Jimmie Vaughan made a long over due stop in Houston last Saturday at Warehouse Live. I believe the last time JV was in town was for a show at this same venue back in 2006.<\/p>\n

An added attraction to this version of the Tilt-a-Whirl band was the addition of a saxophone section consisting of two of the best in the business. The incredible duo of blues veterans Kaz Kazanoff and Greg Piccolo on baritone and soprano sax\u2019s respectively, really bumped Jimmie Vaughan\u2019s show up a couple of notches.<\/p>\n

Not as if JV\u2019s show needed any help but with these guys in tow, Saturday night\u2019s crowded house really couldn\u2019t sit still. They set a cool groove on most of the tunes and Piccolo\u2019s solo work was reminiscent of his days with Room Full of Blues, with his wild hep-cat improvisational work.<\/p>\n

The show was made up of tunes spanning most of Vaughan\u2019s career. From the somewhat obscure T-Birds song, \u2018Roll, Roll, Roll\u2019, from the bands album \u2018Butt Rockin\u2019 to the Vaughan brothers instrumental, \u2018DFW\u2019 were just a couple of examples of the evenings musical mix.<\/p>\n

About halfway through the set Vaughan welcomed Lou Ann Barton to the stage. Barton was on hand the last time JV played Warehouse as well. With her rough edged twang Barton worked the crowd with a variety of numbers well known to her fans. \u2018Natural Born Lover\u2019, \u2018Sugar Coated Love\u2019, and \u2018Scratch My Back\u2019 all featured Barton performing at her best. A Little Richard rock and roll medley of \u2018Tutti Frutti, \u2018Have Some Fun Tonight\u2019 and \u2018Good Golly Miss Molly\u2019 seemed to be a crowd favorite. Jimmie and Lou Ann also teamed up on \u2018In The Middle Of the Night\u2019 and Vaughan\u2019s rockin\u2019, \u2018Boom Bappa Boom\u2019.<\/p>\n

After being called back for an encore, Vaughan performed the tribute song to his late brother, \u2018Six Strings Down\u2019 and the Vaughan brothers, \u2018DFW\u2019.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s always a treat to see Jimmie Vaughan, especially when you never know who might be sitting in with the band. I hope he doesn\u2019t wait so long to stop by Houston again.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
