His brand of booze blues had the crowd staggering as they packed themselves shoulder to shoulder from the front of the stage to the rear of the hall. After more than 30 years of slapping us around with their raucous and rowdy sound George Thorogood and the Destroyers can still inspire their loyal following to have one bourbon, one scotch, one beer and many more judging from the long lines at the bar Saturday.

The show started up with the Barry Mcguire classic ‘Eve of Destruction’ being played over the PA. The next recorded treat piped through the system was Ennio Morricone’s,’The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’ theme from the Sergio Leone spaghetti western of the same name.

Enter George Thorogood and the Destroyers. The band took the crowd by the neck with their first song ‘Rock Party’ and didn’t let go. The next tune, ‘Who Do You Love’, the classic Elis McDaniels (aka Bo Diddley) number featured a maraca back beat that made it hard for anyone with a nervous system to stand still. Other Thorogood classics included ‘The Fixer’ and ‘The Night Time’. If the song ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer’ didn’t give the crowd a proxy drunk, the next tune ‘Cocaine Blues’, had to get them high.

Thorogood pulled the slide out on his Gibson ES-135 for a number of songs that included ‘Got My Eyes on You’ and the one we were all waiting for, ‘Bad to the Bone’. My personal favorite was saved for last. The Hank Williams standard ‘Move it on Over’.

The Destroyers followed up with a two song encore and ended their hour and a half show around 11:30.

This show was a thoroughly good musical bitch slapping party that could have gone on all night.

Written by Jim Bille Apr 28, 2007 at 08:00 PM George Thorogood was in town at Warehouse Live last Saturday night for a punch your lights out show.
