\"KatyThere is a question I ask people all the time, where are the women of rock? Where are the new Chrissie Hyndes and Joan Jetts? Well, Maybelline cosmetics has put together a tour with a few elder bands, Liz Phair and The Cardigans, teamed up with a few younger acts, Charlotte Martin and Katy Rose. This tour was dubbed the Chicks with Attitude Tour. Let\u2019s see if that attitude is the missing rock element from today\u2019s women.First up on this night was Katy Rose. Pulling on the new fad of a barely dressed, barely legal young woman carrying a guitar around and singing sugary pop songs, Katy Rose left a bit to be desired. Peddling sex and easily digestible songwriting<\/p>\n

Ms. Rose would be better suited opening for someone like Ashlee Simpson, who throws the \u2018rock attitude\u2019 around like a shirt that will be out of style by next week. For most of these girls, the music will be out of style next week and they\u2019ll move on. I may be wrong, but I think Katy Rose could do the same.<\/p>\n

\"CharlotteUp next was Charlotte Martin. Ms. Martin sat alone at her piano and played some pretty intense songs. Put aside your comparisons to R&B based Alicia Keys, peg this lady on the board right next to Tori Amos.<\/p>\n

Martin delivered the second best performance of the night as she weaved through melodies and sang heartfelt songs that everyone could get behind but no one could categorize. If she avoids the oddball behavior of Amos, Martin could be a household name within a few years and stay that way.<\/p>\n

Third band on the bill was The Cardigans. Somehow I missed this band when they first gained popularity in the 90s. I don\u2019t know where I was or what I was doing, but I totally missed out on this band.<\/p>\n

\"Cardigans\"Lead vocalist Nina Perssons danced seductively without flaunting pure sex. She fronted the band with her strong voice and presence rather than relying on her physical beauty. Flanked by Peter Svensson on guitar, Magnus Sveningsson on bass, Bengt Lagerberg on drums and Lars-Olaf Johansson on guitar and keyboards, Perssons led the band through an array of songs from their new release Long Gone Before Daylight and, of course, some old favorites.<\/p>\n

The Cardigans, by far, were the best band to sign up for this tour. By the end of their set, the audience was buzzing with energy usually reserved after a headliner had just finished up an encore.<\/p>\n

\"LizThe last person to hit the stage was Liz Phair. There was a time when Liz Phair was the queen of indie rock. She was the epitome of a sexual woman driven to create honest narrative on love and lust while creating very strong musical compositions. That\u2019s what makes seeing Phair now so damn depressing.<\/p>\n

While she seemed to be backing away from the all out sex selling of her new self-titled album, the energy and conviction of the old days is gone. Instead teeny boppers gather around to revel in her new songs about sleeping without boys and playing X-box with them. Where did it all go wrong for this woman?<\/p>\n
