\"Alice<\/a>If you are a true concert goer you can remember your first concert.\u00a0\u00a0 Mine was Grand Funk Railroad smoking menthol cigs and driving to Cleveland from Youngstown, Ohio.\u00a0\u00a0 Well my second was shock rocker Alice Cooper in 1972 and this past week he came to town still touring at 68 years old.\u00a0 I\u2019ve lost count how many times I have seen his gigs since that time in the early seventies, but one constant is a down right enjoyable night of music and mayhem!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 AC is the consummate pro who always surrounds himself from Day One with outstanding musicians and tongue-in-cheek props a plenty.\u00a0 The three guitar army he brought with him featured hot mama Nita Strauss who pimped and posed to the crowd\u2019s delight as she mashed incredibly on her bad ass guitar. The other two were Ryan Roxie and Tommy Henriksen who blasted away keeping the pulse of the evening smokin\u2019 hot.\u00a0 Long time buffed up bassist Chuck Garric was solid and drums were armed and ready by Glen Sobel who has spent some time with Motley Crue also.<\/p>\n

Alice invited us up front being the class act he is for four songs which got the night off major. \u201cThe Black Widow\u201d,\u00a0 scorching \u201cPublic Animal #9\u201d, \u201cNo More Mister Nice Guy\u201d and a\u00a0 bombastic \u201cUnder My Wheels\u201d !\u00a0 The dude\u2019s voice seems ageless and not only did he roll out the hits, but even took time to do a trio tribute to all his drunk friends with The Who\u2019s \u201cPinball Wizard\u201d to Keith Moon,\u00a0 a Motorhead tune to Lemmy Kilmister which I did not recognize and a stellar raise the roof \u201cSuffragette City\u201d to David Bowie.\u00a0 Cooper knows how to let his band play, but you never forget who is running this rock show with him wielding a bloody crutch on \u201cEighteen\u201d, the straightjacket on \u201cDwight Fry\u201d with his wife the naughty evil nurse and of course the guillotine chopping off his head to the henchman\u2019s delight!\u00a0 It is amazing how he can coordinate a horror film around a heavy rock gig effortlessly like he does.<\/p>\n

\"Alice<\/a>More rock nuggets included Strauss covering a lot of ground on deep cut \u201cWoman of Mass Destruction\u201d, \u201cPoison\u201d, all-time fave \u201cHalo of Flies\u201d, \u201cFeed My Frankenstein\u201d with transformation into a monster included, \u201cBillion Dollar Babies\u201d and an amazing version of \u201cOnly Women Bleed\u201d where Cooper sat on a garbage can ballad style and the tune ending up soaring into a rock blitz! \u201cSchool\u2019s Out\u201d complete with a bubble machine and encore of \u201cElected\u201d with two people \u201cdisguised\u201d as Trump and Clinton doing lewd acts was vintage Alice for sure.<\/p>\n

What is rarely told is the kind and generous side of AC providing music for children.\u00a0 Check out his Solid Rock Foundation and you\u2019ll be amazed by this guy.\u00a0 Bob Dylan once stated that Vincent Furnier was one of the most underrated and\u00a0 unappreciated American songwriters to come along.\u00a0 Judging how the Baby Boomer crowd stood all night like teenagers basking in the fun that this dude throws at ya he still has what it takes\u2026\u2026\u2026Hopefully he\u2019ll come back again.<\/p>\n
