\"Image\"Emmylou Harris has been on my “chase” list for years ever since I boarded the ‘Americana’ sound bus\u00a0in earnest.\u00a0 After all, she has been hailed as the Queen of Americana in many circles. The chase finally ended in Houston at the fine confines of the Verizon theater. This venue has far too few gigs played there\u00a0these days\u00a0and the acoustics were spot on good tonight, too.<\/p>\n

Harris has made some killer etched in stone type collaborations over her storied career playing with the likes of Gram Parsons, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, killer ‘All the Roadrunning’ with Mark Knopfler, Guy Clark, Bob Dylan, former guitar player for her Rodney Crowell to name just a “few”. Wow.<\/p>\n

Her tale about playing the Liberty Hall with Neil Young and Ronstadt dropping in on her and Parsons was cool as were many of the stories she embelleshed the loyal crowd with this night. \u00a0Mixed in with the stories were 25+ songs of which only a few were off her latest,
\n‘Hard Bargain’.<\/p>\n

\"Image\"Make no bones about EH was in control of this worshipping audience and band. Standouts from her talented Red Dirt Boys were mandolin heavy ‘Hello Stranger’, ‘Wheels’, dedication to Parsons on ‘The Road’, and the two Will Kimbrough opened up a bit on ‘Six White Cadillacs’ and ‘One of These Days’. Her heartfelt tale introducing ‘Emmett Till’ about the plight of a black man was stirring.<\/p>\n

Emmylou was a trooper this night because you\u00a0could\u00a0tell she was a bit under the weather, but still gave a solid two hour\u00a0perfomance which included a 2 song encore!\u00a0 To still look this good and make you feel at ease like\u00a0EH did this night was a nice bypass from the freeway of life……….When it\u00a0was all said and done, I’m glad I attended what I’d call “The Church of Emmylou” where you\u00a0could hear a freakin’ pin drop in the trance like state of adoration. \u00a0For my tastes I would\u00a0of liked the Red Dirt Boys to spread out and let it loose more, but ya can’t have it all.<\/p>\n
