ImageThey’ve rocked for more than 30 years, but Enanitos Verdes (which literally translates into little green midgets) are proving that they have not lost their touch.

The Argentinean quartet serenaded those in attendance last week at House of Blues. The near-capacity crowd squealed, cheered, chanted, danced, shimmied and sang along without missing a beat.

The rock band is in the middle of one of their biggest tours promoting their latest album, Tic Tac. It’s their 16th studio release and even though it’s been 7 years since their last album, the group returns with the same energy and influence that make them so alluring.

The first half of the show was devoted mostly to their new work. Songs like “No Me Dejes Caer,” “Besos Violentos,” “Mil Caminos” and “Guerra y Carnaval” seamlessly bridged that 7 year gap of Spanish Rock melody that they’re most known for. They carefully balance their tried-and-true style while adding touches of jazzy funk, reggae and punk-pop.

By the second half, fans were itching to hear some of the oldies.

The highlight of the night came when “Lamento Boliviano” was played. The song, often known for drunken debauchery, had people deliriously screaming at the top of their lungs while clumsily cheering with beer glasses or ordering a shot of tequila. They also played “Guitarras Blancas,” “La Muralla Verde,” and “Tu Carcel” among many others.

Enanitos Verdes first rose to fame in the 80’s sweeping through Latin America and taking home a bevy of awards, including a Grammy. Enanitos Verdes is easily one of the most iconic Latin rock bands in history and were among the pioneers of a whole new movement of Rock en Español. Marciano Cantero (vocals/bass) and Felipe Staiti (guitar) are both from the original group formed in 1979. In 2009, Jota Morelli (drummer) joined the lineup along with Juan Pablo Staiti (2nd guitar), Felipe’s son.

Visually, the band isn’t performance driven. They’re not known for putting on a lavish show like so many bands these days. Their music simply stands on its own. It’s heartfelt. It’s sensual. It’s rhapsodic. It’s captivating.
