The WreckersAs a multimedia experiment of sorts, The WB has put together the One Tree Hill Tour. With a current story arc that sees a character, Haley (played by Bethany Joy Lenz), run away from her husband to tour with some musicians, The Wreckers and Tyler Hilton’s character, Chris Keller, The WB brought the show on the road.Heading into the spring, fans of the show can catch The Wreckers, Hilton and Lenz on the road and receive a real life view into what Haley is doing on the show. Unfortunately on this date, Lenz was unable to attend the show, but no one seemed overly put out after seeing the performances put on by Hilton and The Wreckers.

The Wreckers, a collaboration between Grammy-award winner Michelle Branch and her long-time friend Jessica Harp, somehow entranced the teenagers in the audience with some honest-to-god Americana. The pop sweetness was rather low-key, unlike Hilton’s set. A newly-pregnant Branch meandered onto the stage in a sleeveless Metallica shirt and some jeans, finding that comfort is key when bearing a child, while Harp took a more fashionable look.

Clothing aside, the music was surprisingly off-the-dial folksy acoustic based numbers. Mandolins and the like providing back drops for Branch and Harp’s songs. Songs like Tennessee entranced the audience while giving some of the parents in the audience something to enjoy as well. The sounds this band captured were a pleasant surprise next to some of the sugar-coated teeny-bop noise that has become a staple with kids today.

Before the Wreckers, Tyler Hilton had his moment on the stage. While being acoustic-based, Hilton was a lot more pop oriented than The Wreckers, by far. Borrowing from a John Mayer-ish funky acoustic sound, Hilton brought some dance-worthy vibes into Numbers. With a backing band that could keep a groove alive, Hilton had no problem pulling people in.

Of course, he constant dialogues with the audience helped as well. Hilton was far from shy as he talked with people in front of the stage throughout the show. While the Wreckers had people watching and entranced, Hilton had them on their toes screaming and laughing. A somewhat impromptu cover of Little Wing with opener Bryan Greenberg, who is also a revolving cast member on One Tree Hill, was a lot of fun for those who knew the song and a silly original More Than One Pretty Girl got everyone worked up. Of course, Glad, his contribution to the One Tree Hill compilation got the best reaction.

With a playful nature and some quality, sugar-sweet tunes, Hilton could have a long and plentiful future ahead in the music business. Being on the road with someone like Michelle Branch doesn’t hurt either, knowledge is key.
