ImageTed Nugent’s traveling political rock show rolled into H-Town last Wednesday. This year’s installment is called the “Unleash the Beast” Tour! Well we all know who the beast is. And yes he WAS released at the Verizon Theater! The Nuge himself. Say what you will about Mr. Nugent’s political views. This reviewer rufuses to be drawn into political forums when I’m not there for that. Music is what I’m there for.
Passionate performing is what I’m there for. Escaping reality and enjoying my chosen field of work in life.

THAT’S what I’m there for and so is Ted Nugent. Ted doesn’t play much from his knees anymore, but his blazing style is still intact thank you. Classics like “Wango Tango”, “Wang Dang Sweet Poontang” and an absolutely killer “Stranglehold” were awesome. “Spirit of the Wild” was sweet. The now famous “Kiss My Ass” always is a politcal classic in itself.

Ted dropped the F bombs on the Mexican government years back and is still doing it now! He’s paid the price for it in this market, but he does not care. He was playing the Woodlands before he spoke his mind. Now he plays the smaller Verizon because of it. I admire the dude for standing up for USA ideals-one of them preserving free speech in this country! The Nugent of today would be just another voice in the 60’s & 70’s. People then burned bras and protested when things were to their disliking. They weren’t anti-American and Ted IS MR. American for sure. The dude gives freebies to ALL the ranks of Armed Services. Back Stage kinda perk stuff. Sweet.

He has even become a source of classic one liners if you will. Here are a few that stuck with me over the course of the evening:
-“I see some underage children in the seats tonight.
Well they all get a free machine gun tonight. And were going to go down and take care of that (bleep) at the border ourselves!”
-“Why the (bleep) do guys ride bulls?! Those things are made for one thing. (Insert gun blast) Dinner!”
-“I see there are a lot of C&W fans here tonight. Ya know how I know that?! Cuz they are all FAT! And by the way, all fat people get machine guns tonight!”

Classics. Just like him.

People now a days know what they are in for when they come to see a Nugent gig. Hot sweaty Rock ‘N Roll front & center! He may not have the pipes he once had, and he may talk a bit too much, but his link to a killer era of rock music played live is still there and unmistakeable! He comes to deliver his message and in this country he still has that right. God Bless Ted Nugent for standing up for what he loves and enjoying what he does in life. May we all be so lucky…………..Out, ’till next time, Edge
