ImageBeing a fan of The Cure for what has seemed like my whole life who has never had the opportunity to see them live, I was unsure what to expect when they came into Houston. I was half expecting to have a stage filled with whimsical decorations and oddities all around, but what I got was quiet different…it was a no frills rock show.

Taking the stage without saying a word the band went right into Out of This World.  I must say for someone who has been at this game since 1976, Robert Smith looked and sounded AMAZING.  With a quick “Hello Houston!” he went right into Want. This set the pattern for a 25 song set, little talk and all music.

The band played a great mix of old songs and new, going back as far as the Pornography album with One Hundred Years and hitting on the more popular songs off albums such as Kiss Me with Just like Heaven and HOT, HOT, HOT.

Of course, their most popular album, Disintegration, was well represented with songs like Lullaby, Pictures of You and Robert’s one time wedding gift to his wife turned top 10 hit Love Song they even played a few new songs, A Boy I Never Knew, Only One and my new favorite Sleep When I’m Dead, which are all on the album they have coming out September 13th called 13. Let me be the first to say, if what we heard last night in Houston was any indication of the new album, they’ve still got it!

So the night was really a journey from 1982 to today.  For a die hard Cure fan like myself…it was a once in a lifetime moment. Last night was an event that I had built up in my mind for YEARS and I couldn’t have imagined it any better.
