Southwest Regional Folk Alliance, known as SWRFA, has spawned some good memories and musicians to follow over the four years Rose and I have attended the conference in Austin, Tx. One such performer, Amanda Pearcy, brought her full band to the cozy confines of McGonigel’s Mucky Duck for her CD release party.
The CD, titled “An Offering,” was played from start to finish and was well received. The band backing Pearcy, who did the vocals and acoustic guitar, consisted of Andrew Carrell on bass, Carles Zanetti on skins, Stefano Intelisano on silky keys and stud electric guitar work by Cole Hanson.
AP has a smokey nasal twang that blended very well with the bluesy keys and guitar jams all night especially on cuts “Wish I was in Heaven Sitting Down”, “Ribbons and Bows” and killer “Every Now and Then”. Super cover that she fits to a tee on is Bobbie Gentry’s classic “Ode to Billie Joe” where she nails it and band culled it into a jammin’ upbeat rocker.
The more I see this young lady the more I see her stage confidence growing with her cute hop dip and go guitar style and the sultry way she nuzzles the mike! The evening flowed with Amanda sharing facts about songs like blues fused “Pallet on the Floor” about her sister and brother sleeping on the floor and a goodie about leaving LA as in lower Alabama called “Pawn Shop Gun.”
This CD is a very nice follow-up to her “Royal Street” which she did and continues her earthy style rooted in Americana southeast Texas upbringing. She’s headed out on an European tour where she does quite well like landing at #1 on the Oct EuroAmericana Chart over the pond with new disc. She has a dry sense of humor stating that she was born a blues “man” while introducing “Comfort the Soul of a Man”.
She closed out the gig with “Mellow Joy” bearing her soul through out the night to a too small audience indeed. Pearcy can handle it all-ballads, country and for sure upbeat rock with this band in tow. Her star glows bright in this reviewer’s eyes and that distinctive growl of hers should take her higher down the musical road of life…God Bless and good luck to a truly nice person ta boot.
