ImageAnother war horse of rock and blues rolled into H-Town recently, Lonesome George Thorogood and his Destroyers. I had just seen him 11 months or so ago at the Warehouse Live and I wondered if he would bring the same enthusiasm again to the Meridian. Thankfully he did!

The crowd was nice, but not the elbow to elbow jam fest that last April’s gig brought. It made it easy to get around and take in the show. GT kicked the show in with “Rock Party” and the evening took off from there. Like the last show, Thorogood was heavy on what I call “Ham & Eggs”. Duck walking, tongue fluttering, synchronized band movements, leg licks-you name it, GT did it. Mind you, not a bad thing at all.

George has been doing it for so long that he’s earned the right to do anything he damn pleases really. Hell, a quote from the man himself : “Sometimes I’m so full of shit even I can’t repeat it!” Amen brother. He’s damn good at what he does so what’s the problem with a little theatrics?! The enthusiasm was there for sure in all of the classic hits. “Who Do You Love”, “The Fixxer”, “Night Time” and “I Drink Alone” were all killer. George’s “finger fling” style on his big ass white Gibson ES-135 is still unique and effective after all these years of touring. He really has re-dedicated himself from say 5-6 years ago when I saw him “mail in” his shows.

The classic story before “One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer” was worthwhile as always. The dude can flat out entertain. “Eyes on You” and of course “Bad to the Bone” were highlights in the hour and 40 minute set. Once again I was treated to a great evening of rock ‘n roll by a 70’s band. What an era that was boys and girls. Again I have to beg the question: “WHO will be touring in 30+ years from now folks”?! These dudes have been kickin’ it since 1974.

May the party continue for Mr. Thorogood………..Talk at ya later!
