Well guys and girls last night was many things to me. It was going to be my first review and the first time I had ever seen Mr. Malcolm Holcombe live. I had heard a few of his songs by who I am guessing to be his biggest fan. But to see him in person was going to be a real treat. I arrived early praying I would get a chance to see the performer before the show. Well, I did. He sat down and smoked a few cigarettes to my one. We talked about the wild fires and the lack of rain in Texas. We exchanged compliments on each others eyes and I took a picture with him as if we had known each other for quite some time. He was a nice guy all around. He wished me luck on my first review, I thanked him and went into watch what I had read somewhere was “Haunting but Beautiful”
As I took my seat I was not sure what was so popular with this performer. He had a fan base of regulars that came as far as Virginia to see him perform tonight. He slowly got his guitar and all his drinks together, sat down, welcomed everyone to the show. With no pick in hand no big fancy band Malcolm played the first song of many songs of the night. Mountains of home, as much as I tried to listen to the song I was more watching Malcolm in his all around performance. I was afraid he was going to fall out of his chair on the front of the stage.
After the show, he called me by name and asked if I would take a CD of his. I offered to pay and he said he would have no such thing. I took the CD and thanked him for an awesome evening. I was pumped about the whole night. My only regret was that I didn’t have him sign my CD he had just handed me. I was kicking myself all the way home. When I realized I will definitely be seeing him again, I figured I would have him sign it then. Folks this is a one of a kind performer, a must see in person kind of guy. By the 3rd song Not Forgotten I was more relaxed and just enjoyed his music I have to tell you to see this man perform was not what I pictured at ALL from sitting with him just a few minutes before. The passion this man has for his songs. You can’t help but to “feel” what he “feels” while he sings his songs to you. I felt my toes tapping, my fingers couldn’t stop moving and my head was bobbing, He would talk to the audience before some songs and get us laughing with his stories. He would forget that he had said something and tell us twice than remember he just repeated it for us. When the audience was too quite for him at one point he told us that when that would happen he would always check his fly to see if it was down. A few times we sat silent in awe of whatever song he just performed he would wake us up by checking his fly. He was so funny and his music was like nothing I heard. He asked that someone write down Breadbox on wheels so… this ones for you Malcolm.
