ImageOne of the hardest things about leaving home and going on the road is leaving behind most of your loyal fans and playing to people who have never heard of you before. Two Man Advantage left their loyal following in New York and have headed out across the US to spread their message of good friends, beer, and hockey….everything that makes life good.

I was fortunate enough to catch up with Two Man Advantage at Houston’s Emo’s lounge. This version isn’t quite as spectacular as the Austin version of the club, but it’s got a nice homey feel to it. I was excited to see them play in such a small club, because no matter how many showed up, it’d be an intimate show.

After a good wait, Two Man Advantage finally took the stage, but Drunk Bastard was no where to be seen. They began rocking out and Coach took the mic to do the introductions and present “you’re Two Man Advantage.” With this Drunk Bastard came in wearing full hockey gear and go the show underway. It was great. The entire band had their jerseys, Rookie and Coach were running around getting everyone into the set. It was a sight to see.

The band tore through their set of such songs as “Hot Rod GTO” and “Headhunting.” I couldn’t help but sing along and get in on the action during “Suck It Down.” I got in there with Rookie and sang as loud as I could. It was a lot of fun, and this band knew how to get it going.

The only down side of the show was when a crazy drunk club patron jumped up on the stage, grabbed Coach, and pulled him off with him. It was insane. Coach shook it off, the drunk was led out of the show, Rookie got a new Astros hat the drunk man left behind, and everyone had a good laugh. In order to show it didn’t bother Coach, he performed a sweet take down on Rookie as the set ended.

I didn’t stay to see the The Flaming Hellcats because I had Warped Tour the next day. I was blown away by the energy of Two Man Advantage and the fun everyone there had with the band. Be sure to check them out when they come to your town. Pull on your jersey, grab your stick, and get out on the floor!
