ImageTook the ride up to the wonderful city of Austin to catch a wonderful band called the Cowboy Junkies. I was not disappointed! The evening opened like one big lava lamp as the 60’s feel “State Trooper” took hold of the mood. Love Michael Timmons’ guitar work, all in red seclusion . “Hunted” followed by “License to Kill” bringing Miss Margo Timmons to the fore front.

Mesmerizing is a word that is often used with this sweet lady’s live shows. She ranges from Natalie Merchant to Chrissie Hynde to Deborah Harry, with a killer dose of BLUES thrown in!!! This reviewer really dug the covers of “Missing”, “Lonesome” and “One”.

Margo put a very soulful magic goosebump type twist to each tune. Her tales about the band chomping on “piles of dead cow” and how she was going to decorate the bus with beautiful flowers was heartwarming and cool. The encore was a microcosm of the whole show with “Sweet Jane” and a scalding hot “Misguided Angel”!

These guys have always flown under the radar-by their own choice and I applaud them for it. Their legion of loyal “Junkies” is staggering. Here’s hoping they come southwest a little more often. Or I may just have to join the junkie tours myself wherever that me be…
