Spank Rock hit the stage running and didn’t stop during his entire set.  I didn’t really see the entertainment value but did see a significant effort on his part to rally the sparse crowd who were focused on many other things.

The scene changed when act two started. They call themselves LMFAO…rumor has it that it might stand for ‘Laughing My Freakin Ass Off’.  I’d prefer to think it stands for ‘Let My Father Assist Opening……Doors’ given that front man Redfoo’s Dad  (and Sky Blu’s Grand Dad) is ‘the father of Motown’ Berry Gordy !  I have a lot of respect for Berry Gordy as he produced much of the music I loved growing up.  I think, however, his musical influence skipped a generation or two. The guys did provide a lot of energy, color, and you certainly can’t argue that they didn’t give it their all.  I’m just not sure what they were going for with the crowd. The kids did seem to be inspired by them. Maybe it was all the bling, costumes, body paint, dancers and a  large stuffed animal! The music was marginal.

Kesha come out with the throttle to the floor and my index finger came down hard on the shutter button.  Before I knew it I got a tap on the shoulder saying it was time for me to leave the pavilion. All my observations and images had to occur during the first three songs. As we were being escorted off the floor I overheard someone say “A friend of mine who works for the pavilion had the opportunity to bring her kids to the show FREE and chose not to do so ‘. I immediately got it and will explain in a moment!

There were things about the show that I did like. There was significant glitter, color, activity and energy coming from the stage. Kesha can bring it with lots of fluff especially on a very cool two story set and great lighting. Not sure about her real talent? Maybe she can sing; certainly she can scream. The crowd was screaming as well so I guess Kesha was doing something right.  At one point she had a guitar around her neck. One must assume she can play it? It certainly looked good and made for a nice photo op!

What I didn’t like was the mismatch of her message and the audience. With a tour named ‘Get Sleazy’, I guess that is a clue of what you might expect.  Being sensational and pushing boundaries will always attract the attention of prepubescent girls, but I didn’t think the message of sex and ‘getting off’, dressing as you please, and disregarding social norms fit the age group of the crowd. What were you thinking Mom bringing your daughter to this show?  Why these messages Kesha ?
