Dolly Parton hit the stage solo with fiddle in hand and when the lights hit her she exploded into music and song.

The magnificently lit stage at the Verizon Wireless Theatre was a perfect backdrop for the wealthiest lady in country music – to show her obvious wealth of talent!

Her stunning yellow sequined gown was form fitting to show off that amazing body and, yes, those legendary boobs. And, oh yes, she’s aware of the effect and proud of it. She flaunts it, sings about it, and why not? She knows she’s over the top and its part of what her fans came to see. You should see it through a 400 mm lens!

As an aside, Dolly’s former press agent Lee Solters has remarked that he knew her ‘since she was flat chested’. Does that mean they go back to the late 40’s when they were children? Guess it matters not. Dolly’s ‘assets’ will always define her on some level, but fans know there are many other terrific facets to this lady that flesh her out and make her the legend that she has become.

Ms. Dolly Parton is an extremely talented artist. She went from playing one instrument to the next, to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th including sax, piano, and some I’d never seen before! It was a pleasure and delight to watch and hear her mastery of each one.

Her vocals were solid, her stories heartwarming and sincere, and her candor endearing. Not sure I have ever witnessed an artist being more authentic and real.

Although she was touting her new album ‘A Better Day’, and rightly so, her approach was fairly subtle and did not feel like too big of a push. She was perfect at keeping it balanced and played many of her classics. I enjoyed the blend as did this sold out audience.

I didn’t meet the lady. Still I’ve concluded based on my observations and with what little interaction I had with her road manager that she is a class act.

If I had to describe her and her performance in a word it would be…lovely, genuine, talented, spirited, versatile, charming, gracious, beautiful, fun loving, colorful, respectful, and VERY entertaining. Obviously, it can’t be done in a word or even ten.

Dolly Parton is an icon and a beauty. She’s been quoted as saying, “If I see something saggy, baggy, and draggy I’m going to nip it, suck it, and tuck it!”. And that’s fine with us if that’s what makes her happy. But it is all the other less obvious beautiful parts of this shining star, the sum total of the outside and inside, that keep her audience happy – and coming back for more.
