ImageTime flies when you are having fun is an age old slogan that applies to our experience with a lady by the name of Phoebe Hunt.  It was at Kerrville Folk Festival in 2012 that we saw her in Bellville Outfit for the first time.

Fast forward to January 2014 at the bad ass McGonigel’s Mucky Duck (http://www.houstonmusicreview.com/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2333&Itemid=7) where we saw her branch out on her own in fine form.  Then this night at the same venue she gathered a foursome that enhanced her talents major.  It goes by Phoebe Hunt and the Gatherers and gathering up a boatload of momentum is what Rose and I witnessed!  Hunt and singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Connor Forsyth have a chemistry that has been building since their days with Belleville Outfit and have had them touring together in 2014.  This night she added talented electric guitarist Marshall Hood and drummer Robb Kidd.

Backing her recent release, ‘Walk with Me’, the gig showcased the talents of Forsyth, especially on keys, wrapped around the underrated guitar work of Hood. But make no mistake about it, Hunt has grown to be an excellent front leader who spreads the wealth to let her players play, all the while killing you with her cute as a button looks and sultry vocals!  The sound they produced went from jazzy rock pop to smooth ballads and the overall tempo was pleasantly upbeat.  Versatility is a big quality of this group showcased by the take charge fiddle playing of Hunt front and center. Bear with me on titles of songs, but tunes that jumped out were the title cut of new CD, “Catch Me From Falling”, “I Need You to Help Ease My Mind” sung by Hood, “Waiting for the Sun to Rise”,  and the sexy as hell “Sugar”!  Also a song that personifies what is going on with this girl was “Woman On Fire” which I think her career is right now!

ImageThis Austin native that spent some time in Nashvile honing her chops and now calls Brooklyn, NY her home has a sassy confident attitude like I’ve not seen since the likes of Austin icon Toni Price.  I had the pleasure of chatting with Phoebe and she was excited to take this squad on the road in the future.

To me the sky is the limit for her and can’t wait to continue following this down to earth sweet thang when she comes back around………..Get out there and support LIVE music!
