Definition in Texas: Another reason to party!

Many establishments in the Clear Lake area held Cinco de Mayo celebrations; Cabo Clear Lake had their annual large event with several bands; I went to hang out with the guys from SOUL IN TENSION.

Soul in Tension is a local band of 4 high energy guys: Jacob Kitchens (Lead Vocals) is a young good-looking guy with not an ounce of fat on him. He mostly performs without a shirt on, drawing all the girls to the front of the stage, Mike Carroll (Lead / Rhythm Guitar) has excellent picking skills; he is a natural guitarist with smooth riffs, Alex Robertson (Bass) With a U.K. punk-rock look, has a rhythm ability on bass that is fantastic and Chris Paxton (Drums) looks as if he’s been lifting weights since he was 10 years old.  Born in South Africa, Paxton is a talented percussionist with an ever-changing polyrhythm.

Only recently formed in January 2011, you would think these guys have been playing together for many years.  A very tight group with superior musical playing skills, these young fellas can rock!  Just like the last two times I saw them play, when they hit the stage, a large crowd gathers.

They open the show with cool intro, and then migrated to a newer song, “Never Again”; anyone at Cabo that’s never seen these guys before just got their mind blown with that song.  If that didn’t do it, when they went straight into their more popular hit “Ghost in a Shell”, the crowd was ranting.

Although it’s difficult to place them in a specific genre, it closely matches Rock / Alternative; regardless of what type it is, these guys know how to work that crowd.

As they moved into their other rocking hits like “Halong Bay” and “Changes”, their musical talents really start showing why they have such a following.  “Seven Story Life” brought the crowd to their feet; Kitchens walked off the stage and into the crowd – Every girl had to touch him; one tried to dance on him like he was a stripper pole.  Closing the set with a new song, “The Finisher”, the locals got what they came for, high energy rock from a very talented group of musicians.

S.I.T. has opened up shows for national bands like The Hunger and Saliva, not bad for a new-comer on the street.  This upcoming weekend they’ll be opening for Trapt at the Scout Bar in Clear Lake.  I highly recommend you check these guys out; they’ll get you on your feet rocking.

Cabo Clear Lake is a pretty cool bar on the inter-coastal water located in Seabrook, Tx.  They have two levels; both include decks with spectacular views of the bay.  The downstairs deck has a stage for live music or it can be set up for local DJ’s to come lay down their beats.  Upstairs, has a deck for just mingling or you can go inside where they have a full service bar and a larger stage live music.  They have a menu to order hot snacks from.  Pricing was very reasonable for both the food and beer.  Nice place to hang-out and listen to awesome music if you ever get down to Seabrook.
