ImageThe final night of the 2005 season at the Woodlands was here and on the stage for the annual farewell was Journey. Finally playing their date in Houston after it was cancelled due to Hurricane Rita, Journey was met by a strong audience ready to rock out.

Early on this beautiful night at The Woodlands, Journey decided to get “it” out of the way, “It” being the Steve Perry factor. Ross Valory declared:  “Before Steve Perry, Journey had 4 albums and will continue to do more!” From there they basically turned it over to Mister Neal Schon. And he delivered a masterful evening of guitar jamming that was sweet to see.
Looking fit and relaxed, he played constant killer licks without much effort. The first 4 tunes were basically showcases of his enormous talent on the axe.

Then it was time to unleash some classics such as “Feelin’that Way”, “Anyway you want it” and “Stone in Love”. To really enjoy this band now you must quit comparing Steve Augeri to the “other” Steve and just enjoy the classic tunes for what they are! “City by the Bay” is still a great song to hear. Neal’s “Star Spangled Banner” was a Hendrix type classic, too.

“Wheel in the Sky” exploded the very loyal crowd into a frenzy. Other than the volume being cranked too high (too loud for no reason really) this was a great evening of old time rock. Journey will always fill a void and that’s not a bad thing no matter which Steve is there. As long as Mr. Schon shows up, there’s a concert to see folks…
